Hey neighbors - Grandpa slaughtered a cow

Last month we got a phone call from Grandpa McKell in Spanish Fork..."kids, c'mon over'n getchur meat." This has been a common phenomenon for Brian throughout his life, as he grew up with a father and grandfather having hundreds of cattle. Freezers full of dead cow were expected (the form of steaks and patties, of course). But I am still incredulous at the novelty of it all.
So we visited his 90-year old Grandfather and came home with almost more meat than could fit in our outside freezer. Ridiculous, I know. So the obvious solution was to invite a bunch of neighbors over for a BBQ. We particularly wanted to invite the Christensens across the street, since they have one of those super-deluxe outdoor grills (all we have is a little George Foreman). I think we scored big points with everyon by supplying the dead cow. They are like I was - marveling at the novelty of free steaks.

But I just see it now as simply a way to get others to provide the side dishes.

This last pic is classic - one guy mentioned the football game from the day before, and suddenly they closed in a circle and started an in-depth discussion of every play. Sheesh - boys.

Your husband's Grandpa sounds like my kinda guy. And free steak, that's so awesome!

Great way to get rid of dead cow! Dad was quite surprised to have pot roast last night - I found the smallest hunk and did the crock pot thing with lots of veggies.
