STATS

As of August 27th, at 6 months and 20 days, Brianna:

Weighs 18.4 pounds (90th percentile)
Measures 27.5 inches (95th percentile)

We transferred to a new Pediatrician - Dr. Pollary at Dinosaur Land Pediatrics here in Vernal (hence the dinosaur wall paper. Most everything in Vernal is dino-themed, its funny). I'm not nuts about him. I miss Dr. Adams at UVP. Dr. Pollary made some condescending remarks, like I dont know the difference between a baby and a puppy. He also suggested I use formula at night to help her sleep better (Brianna still wakes in the night for a feeding). Research has shown that doesnt make a difference at all. But Dr. Pollary is one of those older know-it-all type doctors (I hope he doesnt read this), and I dont think he has touched a recent medical journal since his schooling. He thought perhaps she isnt getting enough calories during the day. Well how do you explain her 90th percentile achievement then, Dr. Dino?!  Sheesh. He also spent most of the time with his mouth open and ears shut. I felt like I was listening to a pre-recorded ancient babycare lecture for dummymoms.
The nurses were kind and competent at least. Well, I thought so...Brianna didnt like them much. They were the ones administering the needles. To put it mildly, she didnt care for that experience. But no more now til February! Yay.

Sorry about the weird Dr's visit. Are you going to keep looking for a different pediatrician or stick with Dr. Dino? Just remember that your instincts are right on. And my pediatrician told me that it's pretty normal for infants to keep waking during the night. I wouldn't add formula if you don't want to. If she seems happy and like she's getting enough to eat, then she is. She looks so cute on the table, like "Mom, are you done taking a picture so I can move?"

Ughh. I really have a hard time with certain doctors! I'm sorry you had to have similar experience.

Meanwhile, Brianna is adorable and you won't have to worry at all about turning that carseat around in 6 months. She'll weigh 20 lbs for sure by then. Yipee!

Brianna is getting so big. She will be tall like her mom and dad. She is so cute! Dean has his 4 month appt. on Monday and I can't wait to see how big he has gotten.

Gee wiz! Sounds like Dr. Dino is old fashioned. Keep up that great work of being a mom. I love seeing the posts and pictures!

Ok, so a may rant a little and I apologize to any who may disagree, but I hate it when people suggest formula to a perfectly well fed baby. Breastmilk does not need to be supplemented with formula. Especially at an age where there are other options like baby foods. I'm really sorry that you had this doctor. And if it helps at all, it took my kids a long time to sleep through the night. Josie will still wake up on occasion, and since she is in the same room as Abby we are soft and go in. With Abby we let her cry and sometimes scream, but only starting at 10 months. Sorry for the long comment.

Mal - no, we wont be seeing Dr. Dino anymore, hopefully. There are 3 Pediatricians at the clinic and Ill try a different one next time. And youre right - I read that only 10% of 6month old babies sleep a full 10-12 hrs w/o waking. My baby is not in that 10%.

Amy - I hadnt even thought about turning the carseat around! Thats so crazy.... just a few more months til we can do that!

Rachel - I totally 100% agree (but didnt get into it in the post since it can be a sensitive subject). I just hate the fact that doctors like him are telling women to use formula, and many will believe them. Ive had a couple friends offer the same suggestion. It blows my mind - especially after I got my MS in Public Health and exclusive breastfeeding was so strongly advocated for. I just figured the whole world understood the practical, emotional, and physiologic benefits.
Anyways, Im glad to know Brianna isnt the only baby not sleeping through the night consistently. Hopefully it will get better. Til then, I kindof enjoy the 20 minutes we share together around 3am.
(now THIS was a long comment!)

She is sure getting big! I can't stand Drs. they really think that they know everything and that parents are dumb!! I guess not all Drs. are like that, but I have met a few of them. Like with Eden's Eczema, one Dr. told me to just give her Benadryl every day to keep the itching under control. What?!? You want me to drug her daily?!? Crazy!! 3 different Drs. for that same eczema, the 3rd one finally gave me some helpful info, but made me feel like a bad parent for not getting it taken care of sooner. Arg. Sorry you had a bad experience, hopefully, you won't have another one!!
(oh, fix the comment thing on my blog, I didn't realize that it was asking for the "code")

I've learned a lot about babies since being with Dr. Dayton this last month! I am certainly not the expert.....but the Brizzle is obviously well fed and very happy with breast feeding! You can try feeding her the mushy stuff we call "solids" before bedtime, and then if not enough of that goes actually into her mouth & she's still hungry, breast feed her too. And heck, if it doesn't bug you, then its not a big deal that she wakes up to eat again! How is she doing with the "solds"? Sorry Dr. Dino wasn't so fun.....good luck with the next one!
