Fire

After going running in the shadow of the massive forest fires just 10 miles from us, I think I know what it feels like to be a smoker [cough,cough].
Nasty looking skies, huh! The whole town of New Harmony was evacuated. No deaths, but lots of destroyed property and homes. I asked my neighbor, Doug, what caused the fire. He said, "those dang tree-huggers. It's their fault." Hmmm.... I thought that we had seen the last of the environmentalist-haters when we left Vernal.

Jami & Mark said...: Ha ha - no there are tonz of people who don't like tree-huggers in Southern Utah.....guess no one told you. What actually started the fire was that it was a "controlled" burn up the canyon which got out of hand when the wind picked up. This has actually happened before in that area, but not as bad. There is a serious bark beetle prob in the mts & a lot of the trees are just fuel ready to burn - not alive anymore, so they are trying to reduce them with "controlled burns".
