Lazy wheels of training
I feel kinda lame for not working with Brianna on bike riding yet. She'll be 5 in February. Add that to my list of lazy parenting.
I've heard it's better to take off the pedals so she learns balance, like those Strider bikes, then put them on again when she's ready. Skip the training wheels all together. I'd love to hear what other parents have done to teach the riding of the bicycle?

We took the pedals off for Abby. (and no training wheels.) She also practiced with the two wheeled scooters to get the feel of balance. I think she learned pretty good (but I also covet those strider bikes!)
We just took training wheels off and Daniel caught on in 5 mins at age 3. If they want to do it they will do it. Daniel saw other kids doing it so he had a desire. We never did strider bikes or anything.
I've never bought a strider bike. Both of our kids didn't learn until later. Rebekah was almost 7 and Patrick was 5. There's no shame in that. Just take the training wheels off and try, try again!
We are right there with you. After a couple of spills, Madeline doesn't even want to ride her bike. I'm definitely taking the pedals off come spring. Everyone swears by it. When we visited our friends in D.C., their 2 year old rode his balance bike all over downtown. It was crazy - and embarrassing that our kids don't really know how to ride bikes. :)
