Preg update: 15 weeks

-Doc appt went well today. Heard the heartbeats (154 and 160). Relief and joy.
-THE ultrasound scheduled for March 23rd. I'll make a guess-the-genders post a week before.
-Though the official due date is August 19th, my doc says there's no way he's letting me go a day past 38 weeks. So - the latest these babies will be here is August 4th. I hope to make it right up to that day - I'm crossing my fingers and toes for at least 6 lb twins (each, obviously - though I know that means 12 pounds of baby, thus 726 lbs on me).
-I'm a pill popper. Folic acid pill in the morn, prenatal mid-day, more folic acid at night. Tums for tum aches. Finishing antibiotics off from last week. Someday I dream to be pill-free.
-I've had a net gain of 5 pounds after the 1st trimester loss. The appetite-loss issue is officially over. I am omnivorous again.
-Currently absorbed in several books about twins. Kindof overwhelming - especially all the photos of breastfeeding multiples. Getting myself used to the fact that I will being doing very little - if
anything - other than infant care for the first few months. Very worried I'll be DD size.
-My bras, especially sports bras, seem to be
shrinking severely. Odd.
- I was told recently that my belly doesn't look pregnant - I simply look like I ate a really big meal. Fabulous. I'd rather look fully pregnant than gluttonous.
-Sticking with same OB/GYN. I had strongly considered switching for awhile there. But he's a good guy and I think truly has the babies' best interest at heart. Not mine though - he's big on restricting me from doing what
I wanna do. Eg: travel, run, lift....
-I'm supposed to eat more protein to strengthen the amniotic sacs. Like over 100g/day. Problem with that: I like carbs. I'd rather have a loaf of bread than a steak.
-Continuing with appts every 2 weeks. Yeah, TWO weeks... for a few months, til we switch to EVERY WEEK. I might as well just get an apartment next door to the clinic. Big thankyou to my dear friends who are willing to watch Brianna for me! I will be calling on you often.
-Reality is slowly sinking in. We are really having twins.

Awesome protein to be had in some of the grains (of course, why am I tell YOU that?) Quinoa cereal for breakfast, ground amaranth for your bread and that Tex Mex Millet recipe I sent you with your dinner.

wow just reading about having twins is intense, I can't imagine the feeling you must have since YOU are actually having twins!

Your OB says you can't travel? That is strange.
Don't listen to what people tell you, I bet you look pregnant for sure! you are too skinny for a random fat belly.

Oh yes and don't you fear, I survived DDs with just one baby. I remember when Grace was 6 months old having a breakdown because I still couldn't fit into any of my button up shirts! I wish I could tell you they went back to normal after I was done nursing...HaHa. Ah the joys of motherhood and you get to have Twice the fun! Hooray!

I totally hate it when doctors put restrictions on you! No lifting? What is he talking about? You have a two year old! (Sorry, my rant)
I love hearing heartbeats. Hearing them actaully makes the pregnancy sink in a little bit.
I am so excited for you! You will be an excellent mom to twins. You handled Brianna seamlessly and I know you will do the same for these new little ones!
As for protein, I crave Arby's roast beast sandwiches when I'm pregnant. But I have low iron and I think I crave it because my body knows that I need it!

This is exciting? So what happens to the babies after 38 weeks? Do they turn into pumpkins?

Sally Jackson said...

That wasn't supposed to be a question mark after exciting. It was supposed to be a !!!!! Geez, that made me sound like a jerk,, but I am curious why doctor is calling the shots. I don't know much about twins, but if there's nothing wrong with them, can't you just be pregnant until they come out?

Meg - thankyou! Those are great ideas. Trust me - I need all the help I can get.

Amanda - he says I can't travel when I want to, which is at the end of May. I'll be 29 weeks - which, with twins, means a uterus the size of a 38 week regular pregnancy. So I could go into labor anytime. Having the babies in Florida (it's Maria's wedding I'm missing) would be a huge disaster.... no insurance coverage there! And the thought of a 6 hour flight home with 2 infants and a toddler.... [shuddering]

Julie - THIS is how you announce your pregnancy to me? On my blog?! Well - HUGE congrats! Sososohappy for you! And chances are, whether you have a boy or girl, at least one of my babies will be a candidate to marry him/her! DOUBLE WEDDING!

Sally - I WISH I could carry them the full 40. Or just until my body says it's time to go. But since I already have had one c-section, I have a major scar on the inside wall of the uterus. At 38 weeks with twins, it's at the point of bursting. So let's say I'm walking around at 39 weeks and turn around too quickly or bend down or whatever... POP. Uterus bursts. Very messy. I so wish I hadn't had a c-section with Brianna, then this wouldn't be an issue. But I've had to learn to not worry about delivery details and just focus on the most important thing - healthy babies!

I got used to doing whatever the doctor said last time around - Not even being able to leave the house, only getting up to go to the bathroom or shower...yuck and I felt perfectly fine! But it was way better than having a premie. Just be careful and listen to your body. This is quite the adventure! Thanks for sharing the details :)

Well you know how we like to be sneaky about things :) Since I don't really know very many people (if hardly any) that read your blog - I figured it was perfect to let you know before I let the world know on my blog - because yes - you guys are that cool to me! :) Can't wait for more Double weddings - YAY!

you amaze me...I love how you continually take this all in stride and love each moment that is given to you! I would give one piece of advice - be sure you get help and A LOT of it after the babies are born. I have 2 friends that both have twins - and then a toddler - both said it was essential to have someone around the clock for absolutely the first month, and really most of the second as well. So...start making sure that your family knows how much you love them and that you want/need them around!

Then I'd also see about finding someone now you love - a Mother's Helper that next year can come over almost every day to play with Brianna and do some house-cleaning while you take care of the twins or do things around the house that only YOU can do! Otherwise you will be exhausted and falling apart over silly things like dishes and bathrooms, and really it's so much easier to just have someone else look after those things. I don't have twins, just the 3 kiddos and a crazy life with Bryson's schedule and I realized this last week - for my sanity and everyone else's - I need to look at getting a Mother's Helper as well!

And I want to say (but it's getting late so I'm putting it all in one post) you look absolutely stunning in your pictures of the date night with Brian. I love your hair - it is subtle, but a nice enough pop that it is noticed! Your sister did a great job!! We are doing a Silent Auction in April here at the kiddos school and I'm terrified it will not go over well - I hope we have as much success as it looks like the one you went to had!

Looking forward to hearing the genders and many more fun updates as things continue...and I am so glad that you are feeling better now! Yeah!

Oh wait - one more thing. I had terrible heart burn/tummy problems when I was pregnant with Jacob - really, really bad that almost every night I'd cry as it felt like my throat would burn up from the acid that would creep up. I finally found the best solution - Papaya Enzymes. Health Food store - not crazy expensive, they taste rather decent (much better than Tums) and I just liked the overall feel of solving my tummy problems with something more natural than manufactured. Maybe they have a sample somewhere that you could try :)

Thanks for clueing me in! I just finally read your response. I don't know a lot about C-sections, and it's something I really need to read up on. It would be the smart thing for me to do.
